Vintage Microphone (Phoenix Telephones & Electrical)

PX20/234 No. 10

Vintage Microphone I have had this item for several years and know little about it. The handle and mouthpiece are of ebonite and the metal parts of brass. The rear of the microphone housing is stamped PX.20/234 No.10. PX is the British Post Office code for the Phoenix Telephones & Electrical Works Ltd. Hendon, London. NW9. The numbers following indicate the year of manufacture [1920]. The construction looks very similar to the handset shown here: TELEPHONE No. 28

Carbon granule microphone cartridge. Also made by Phoenix in 1920 this is a transmitter insert No.3
